His obituary appeared in the Anna, IL, newspaper in January of 1921:

"Benjamin William MENEES was born in Fulton county, Kentucky, on the twenty-second day of November, 1849, son of Benjamin and Eliza MENEES. He was the oldest of a family of tree boys, but is survived by only on of his brothers, Mr. James T. MENEES of Anna, Ill.

"The elder MENEES, after the death of his wife in 1857, moved to Union county, Illinois, bringing his children with him and "Ben", as the deceased has always been familiarly and affectionately called, has been a resident of the county since that time.

"He was married to Miss Mary LOWRY on the fourteenth of September, 1869, and to them were born five children-three boys and two girls. three of the children survive: George W. MENEES of Phoenix, Arizona; Clifford MENEES of Vashon, Washington; and Mrs. Stella MISENHEIMER of Mill Creek, Ill.

"On the twenty-fourth of April 1887, he was married to Miss Bell LINGLE of Mill Creek, Illinois, and to them was born one son, Harley B. MENEES, of Seattle, Washington, who, with his mother, survive and mourn the loss of the father.

"Mr. MENEES had been a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran church since January, 1897, when he was received as a communicant of the same by the present pastor. He was also a member of the Blue Lodge and Chapter of the Masonic order.

"In his life time he has been a farmer, teamster, and the first local agent of the Standard Oil Company. He also served his county and city as constable, marshal and street commissioner. And in each and everyone of these activities had given faithful, conscientious and efficient service."

"Eight years ago came the first break in health, since which time he has performed his duties with great difficulty, but always with the same fidelity. the end came early Saturday morning, January 22, and he has gone where beyond these voices there is rest and peace..1
