Jonesboro Gazette 5 Jun 1925: "Columbus Cruse died last Saturday (30 May 1925) at the home of his nephew, J. C. DeWitt, aged 86 years, 7 months, 26 days, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. His funeral was at Norris Funeral Home and was conducted by the American Legion. He was born 4 Oct 1838, south of Jonesboro, one of six children of Jacob and Elizabeth (Hileman) Cruse. He enlisted in the 60th Illinois Infantry and served three and a half years and was mustered out at Anna. After the Civil War he went to Colorado and engaged in mining. He worked in St. Louis and Galveston, Texas, on the street railways as conductor. Twenty years ago he was admitted to U. S. Soldiers Home in Quincy, Adams County. His nephew brought him home six weeks ago. He never married. He left seven nephews and six nieces in Union County..1,2,3 He was buried on 31 May 1925 at Anna Cemetery, Anna, Union County, Illinois.2

This purchase included the farm recently owned by the late Orville Spencer, and at that time was wholly in a state of nature. Mr. Clifford made a small clearing and built a house on the south side of the road nearly opposite the present house" - page 225

A. Randall's house now stands. March 10 1799 he bought of his brother Simeon forty five acres of land which included the farm now owned by the Pittsford Quarry Company. He made the first improvements on that farm, and resided there until 1845, when he moved to Parma, Michigan. The house now on the farm was built by Mr. Clifford in 1814." - p. 225
