Peter Joseph Lentz Jr. was Marriage; Person Source.2 He was born on 8 August 1798 at Rowan County, North Carolina; LH states that he does not show on Organ Church Baptismal Records. I believe, however, that he may be identical to the John Peter shown on Organ Church Baptismal Records as '(Born) Aug 8, 1798, John Peter (Lentz), baptized Oct 6, 1798; parents Peter Lentz & W; sponsor, Jacob Troutman & Elizabeth.' LH Chap V, p. 57 states that he was born about 1799-1800.3,4 John, John and Peter was probably a free white male, under 10 years old, in Peter J Lentz's household on the 1800 Census at Rowan County, North Carolina; Peter Lence 3 males 0-9 (perhaps John 9; Jacob 6; Peter 1); 1 male 26-44 (Peter); 3 females 0-9 (perhaps Christine 7; Mary 4; Catherine 2); 1 female 26-44 (Anna Margaret).5 He married Elizabeth Beaver at Rowan County, North Carolina, on 5 April 1820.6,7,1 Peter Joseph Lentz Jr. and Elizabeth Beaver Bonded by D23- Jacob LENTZ, his brother. Witnessed by Henry Allemong. See 'Rowan Marriages 1753-1868,' p. 238 on 5 April 1820.1 Peter Joseph Lentz Jr. died on 27 February 1849 at Rowan County, North Carolina, at age 50.1 He His widow shows on the 1850 and 1860 censuses. 10 children. HISTORY OF D26- PETER J. LENTZ AND ELIZABETH BEAVER He shows on the 1820 census of Rowan as man and wife, both age 16-26. The 1830 census shows them age 20-30 with one son under 5; one son age 5-10; one daughter under 5 and one daughter 5-10. If this is correct, they must have married at age 20 or under. This gives us our estimate of his birth year. The 1840 census shows his age 40-50, and her age as 30-40. This would make his birth year 1800 or possibly 1798 or 1799. By the 1850 census, she is listed as Elizabeth (Beaver) LENTZ, age 45, born 1805, and married at age 15 or 16. Six children show in 1850. He died 27 Feb 1849. He was a tailor. They had ten known children in the Fourth Generation. (NOTICE: Other family members married into the Beaver family giving three sets of DOUBLE FIRST COUSINS. D28- Joseph LENTZ m. Rachael Beaver; D2A-Lydia LENTZ m. Samuel Beaver, and D26- Peter m. Elizabeth Beaver. By combining information from the census records with the recorded trips Rev. Rothrock made to the home of 'Peter Lentz' and 'widow Lentz' to marry their daughters, we got the family of Peter LENTZ and Elizabeth BEAVER, as in this Family Group Sheet.) He died 27 Feb 1849, age 49, widow Elizabeth shows on 1850 and 1860 censuses.. 10 children.1 He Person Source.2 He was 4DE3558ECC7ECC4685336048579D1806E1FF.1 He is included in the biography of John Jacob Lentz and Catharine Kluttz; HISTORY OF D23- (JOHN) JACOB LENTZ AND CATHERINE CLUTTS Jacob LENTZ was involved in three land transactions in Rowan that involved the administrators of his father's estate which would be a result of his being an heir. They were (1) 7 Jul 1819, Bk. 25. p. 577; (2) 10 Jul 1819, Bk. 25, p. 629; and (3) 3 May 1828, Bk. 34, p. 446. He witnessed the deed selling part of his father's estate on 29 Aug 1817, Bk. 25, p. 113, and he signed the marriage bond for his brother D26= Peter J. LENTZ, Jr., 5 Apr 1820. He moved to IL where his descendents have records that tie back to this family in Rowan Co., NC. His Klutts family ties are shown in Rowan Deed Book 26, p. 167, 4 Apr 1820 when he and wife Katharine sell their 1/5th part of the estate of Wendel Klutts to Garret Pickler for $275. Henry Klutts (her brother) having bought 3/5ths of the estate and sold 4/5ths to Garret Pickler. Apparently Wendel Klutts had 5 living children in 1820 - relatives of the children of D23- Jacob LENTZ and Katherine Klutts. His family and records show in IL for 1830 until his death. He had already received his inheritance and left NC when the farm was sold to his mother in 1833. Sponsored child of brother-in-law John Klotz, 28 Oct 1827. (NOTE: Also attached to this family by one writer were the following: D239-James H. LENTZ, b. 1867 in IL, and D24O-Albert LENTZ. These are believed to be in error and may show up in another family.)1

Christina Lentz was Marriage; Person Source.2 She HISTORY OF D22- CHRISTINE LENTZ AND ROBERT LYNN
We have very few records. The 1860 census of Rowan Co., NC, shows Robert LINN, age 73, (b. 1788), wife Christine (LENTZ), age 65 (b. 1795), and Samuel LINN, age 32 (b. 1828), carpenter, with parents as farmers. We believe they had several other children.
Apparently Samuel LINN was not married at this time and no children show. Christine and Robert show on the land sale to her mother in 1833.
(NOTE: She has been confused with P61- Christine LENTZ, b. 27 Jan 1793, daughter of P6- Peter LENTZ, Jr., as shown in Organ Church baptismal records. The two girls were second cousins. P61- Christine LENTZ was daughter of (P6-) Peter LENTZ, Jr. and Philpena MILLER, daughter of Wendel MILLER who sponsored the first child as grandfather.)
The LINN families belonged to the German Reform Church on Cold Water Creek in Cabarrus Co and usually married within the faith. Since D22- Christine LENTZ and her brother D23- Jacob LENTZ do not show on the Organ Church baptismal records, we believe the family was living near another church during this time. Both Christine and Robert should show on the 1870 census. They probably belonged to a Lutheran church tin Cabarrus Co. along Cold Water Creek or on Bear Creek.
Joseph A. LINN, b 28 May 1820, son of Samuel G. LINN and Elizabeth LINN, may have been a relative of Robert LINN. This Joseph Adam LINN had a son, b 22 Jan 1853, Joseph Adolphus LINN who married D247- Margaret Ann BERNHARDT.
John LINN witnessed deeds for members of the family of D2- Peter LENTZ and may be a son of Robert and Christine, and Samuel LINN must have been a son.
We have no further records on this family. (See LH, Chap V, p. 31) * * *
NOTE: There is currently no proof of a connection, but the 1900 census of Cabarrus Co., NC, shows:
Rev. Joseph Arthur Linn, b. Jan 1853, age 47, married 11 years, wife Mary, b. Mar 1866, age 34, married 11 years; issue 4 children with 4 living.
Children: (1) Marian (son) 19, (b. 1881)
(2) M. _______ Lucille, 18, (b. 1882
(3) Maggia, age 15 (b. 1885
(4) John K. ____, age 11, (b. 1889)
(5) Charles A.____, age 7 (b. 1893
(6) J. ____ Arthur, age 6, (b. 1894)
(7) Hubert M. ____, age 1, (b. 1889)
This census also shows mother Margaret A. (Bernhardt) Lentz, age 765. (She married FIRST to a Linn and SECOND to her cousin, D272- Rufus W. Lentz who had died, a 1st cousin.) Unrecognized GEDCOM data: Unknown GEDCOM tag: _UID 5603BBA7BBF71140B1495838C9B64E526770. She was born on 17 December 1793 at Rowan County, North Carolina; LH states: 'The 1850 census indicates that she was b. in 1795. She does not show on Organ Church baptismal records.' It is almost certain that the above is not accurate. She appears in the Organ Church Baptismal Records as: '(Born) 27 Jan 1793 Christine, baptized __ 27, 1793, Peter (J.) Lentz parent, Wndel Miller & W. sponsors.3,1,4' She was baptized in 1794 at Rowan County, North Carolina; According to LH, Chap V, p, 17 she does not appear on Organ Church Baptismal Records, but I believe she is the one shown on these records as '(Born) Jan 27, 1793, Christine (Lentz) Baptized __ 27, 1793, parents Peter Lentz; sponsor, Wendell Miller & W.' This conclusion seems to be supported by the correction found on the Chap V, p. 17 addendum stating that she was born in 1793.1 Christina, Mary and Catherine was probably a free white female, under age 10, in Peter J Lentz's household on the 1800 Census at Rowan County, North Carolina; Peter Lence 3 males 0-9 (perhaps John 9; Jacob 6; Peter 1); 1 male 26-44 (Peter); 3 females 0-9 (perhaps Christine 7; Mary 4; Catherine 2); 1 female 26-44 (Anna Margaret).5 Her married name was Lynn.1 As of 7 March 1814,her married name was Linn.1,4 Christina Lentz married Robert Linn on 7 March 1814 at North Carolina.1,4 Christina and Anna was listed as a household member living with Robert Linn on the 1850 Census at School District No 14, Rowan County, North Carolina; 1335 1347 Robert Linn 62 male farmer 500 NC; Christina Linn 57 female NC cannot read write; Moses 20 male labourer NC attending school; Anna L 17 female NC attending school; Munfred Beaver 23 blacksmith neighbor (one above.)6 Christina Lentz died on 27 May 1871 at Rowan County, North Carolina, at age 77.1,4 She was buried at China Grove, Rowan County, North Carolina; She and her husband are buried near the railroad between Luther's Chapel Lutheran Church and another church in China Grover, Rowan Co., NC.1 She Person Source.2 She was 5603BBA7BBF71140B1495838C9B64E526770.1

HISTORY OF D24-SARAH ELIZABETH LENTZ AND JOHN CHRISTIAN BERNHARDT
She is shown as Mary Elizabeth LENTZ in the Bernhardt records.
Her name also appears as Sarah Mary Elizabeth Lentz and Mary Sarah Elizabeth Lentz.
The Bernhardt family has a collected history dating before 1613 from the area of Sprendlingen and St. Johann, Germany, near Mainz. His ancestors were driven from the Lutheran and Reform Church section of Germany into Switzerland by the French invasion of 1700 or soon afterwards; they left Germany to avoid further religious persecution.
John Christian BERNHARDT I (1719-1799) was given permission to leave Switzerland since he was a 'nail maker' and besides a wife and son, he had only debts, according to Paust and Brumbaugh, 24 May 1751. He had a son John Mathia BERNHARDT and a grandson John Christian BERNHARDT II who married D24- Elizabeth LENTZ. The family lived on Cold Water Creek, Concord, NC
John C. BERNHARDT II, b. 25 Mar 1786, d. 1 Sept 1854, both buried at Bethel Church (now Bear Creek Church) in Stanly Co., NC. Some of their descendents moved to Caldwell Co., near Lenoir, NC, where they operate the BERNHARDT FURNITURE COMPANY today. His father, John Mathias BERNHARDT II stated in his Will 'to my son, John Christian BERNHARDT, one French crown, he having been given a good and expensive education and having married contrary to my parental wishes and advice.' The Mennonite faith believed in marrying only within the faith. His father did not like it because he married a Lutheran girl. They were German Reform Church.
Further details may be had from the present John Christian BERNHARDT, Box 740, Lenoir, NC 28645. They had eight children in the fourth generation.
After D24-Mary (Sarah) Elizabeth Lentz married John Christian BERNHARDT, II, they moved down on Cold Water Creek in Cabarrus Co. and raised a family. Her sister D22-Christine Lentz married Robert Lynn and also moved to Cabarrus Co. They show in Rowan on the 1860 census with a son named Samuel Linn, age 32, born 1828. A search in depth has not been made for this family. There may be a kinship among these families that ties into the family line of Rev. Joseph A. (Adam?) Linn and wife D247- Margaret Ann Bernhardt. The children of Margaret may be related to the children of D22-Christine Lentz and Robert Lynn. (See LH, Chap V, pp. 18, 19, 28, 82, 101.)
