Jacob Yost1

M, b. 1746, d. February 1810
Jacob Yost The Randleman map showing the land grants and early settlers in Rowan Co. shows in 1802 a distance of about 10 miles between the land of Bastian LENTZ, Sr., located on the Cabarrus Co. line and the farm to the east near the Yadkin River belonging to Jacob Yost with one farm between Jacob YOST and the Stanly Co. line (Montgmomery Co. until 1841). The farm of Jacob LENTZ was just across the line in Cabarrus Co. and would be about the same distance from the home of his wife Mary Yost LENTZ. (For maps, see Chap.VII,pp82-86 of LENTZ HERITAGE.)
The 1800 census of Rowan Co. shows Jacob YEOST (YOST) age 45-plus, wife age 26-45, 1 son under 10, 3 daughters. age 16-26. One of these daughters was Mary YOST, Jr., who would marry (John) Jacob LENTZ on 12 May 1802 at age 24, and was age 22 on the census. Jacob was 25 when married.
Rowan Co. Minutes,p. 335,Feb 1806-Michael FISHER, farmer (on) lands of Jacob YOST, Rebecca and John YOST, resigns his guardianship and Mary YOST (Sr.) gives bond with Jacob LENTZ in 125 lb. On the same page and date the following is found: 'Rebecca and Jne (John) YOST resigned his guardianship, and Mary YOST gave bond with Jacob LANCE (LENTZ) in 125 pounds.'
The above entries about 'resignation of guardianship' seem to tell us two things: FIRST, that widow Mary YOST is not satisfied with her tenant Michael FISHER and gets court approval to replace him and manage the estate of Jacob YOST herself, and the court required a bond to secure the state and property. SECOND, that widow Mary YOST is taking over the responsibility as guardian of her two youngest children, Rebecca and John, and was required to post bond to insure their proper care.
From the 1800 census, we estimate the minimum age of the daughter to be 22 and the maximum age of the son to be age 15.
It seems that the widow Mary YOST had asked her son-in-law Jacob LENTZ to help her with the estate and needed him to be in Rowan Co. in order to give bond and help. He had to move from Cabarrus Co. to Rowan Co.

Henry Lentz was Marriage; Person Source.2 He There is the possibility of error here on who his children were. This family was estimated from 1830 and 1840 census records. The family of one son, B135- Tobias Lentz is also estimated from census records.

On 1 Sep 1874, Will Book 1, p. 432, Rowan Co., NC, Henry Lentz wills the following: 'I will to George Frick the land I now live on, containing about 240 acres and my personal property for this natural life. After the death of Henry Lentz and wife Catherine, all land and personal propety to go to George Frick in fee simple.' Apparently the 240 acres included the 152 acres he bought from his father Bastian Lentz, Jr.
Only one child is in evidence by this Will: B137- Catherine Lentz (by his second wife), b. 1854, married on 6 Jan 1871 to George F. Frick.
B137- Catherine Lentz, b. 1854 when her mother was age 41 (if b. 1813) has presented a problem since others show the 7th child as Jane, b. c. 1813, and may have married ______ Cauble. The census show a maximum of 7 children. Others indicate that B137- Catherine was 'adopted.' Catherine m. George F. Frick, Rowan bond 31 Dec 1870, married 4 Jan 1871. We have gone with this as a daughter by second wife since B13- Henry willed them the farm, then all signed it over to Tobias Kesler on 21 May 1878 to cover a $600 debt, leaving only 22 acres.
