MotherPhoebe Kern2 b. 3 Aug 1805, d. 19 May 1852
William Edward Boy was born 20 Apr 1828 in Lawrence County IN, the second child of Elisha and Phoebe Kern Boyd. Like his older brother he worked the farm with his father. With his parents and siblings he was a charter member of the Bedford Christian Church in May 1846. In the US Census of 1850, he was a farmer by occupation and lived on the farm of Susan Adamson, widow, aged 43, who had several children including one named Elizabeth aged fifteen.
After his marriage to Elizabeth Jane Adamson on 7 Jul 1853 and the birth of his first three children, he sold his forty acre farm to his first cousin Martin Isaac Callahan, and together with his father Elisha and all of the children and grandchildren, went to Coles County, IL. He purchased Lot 12, Blk 61 in the Noyes addition to Matoon IL on Oct 5, 1859, and the 1860 census showed his occupation to be a drayman. Prior to the 1870 census he had returned to the Fayetteville area. According to family history given me by Catherine Kern of Bedford, William went to Oregon with his family after 1875 and arrived there in 1886. It is believed he spent some time in Missouri, and he was in Pittsburg, KS some 25 miles northwest of Joplin, MO in the late 1870's. The 1880 census showed him in Butler County KS just east of Wichita with all of his children except Emma. William's younger brother Frank Leslie Boyd and family (Chap 40) moved to Clearwater, KS some 15 miles southwest of Wichita in 1884, probably with his encouragement.
According to Francis Everett Callahan in a letter to Lottie Boyd a granddaughter of William M Boyd (Chap 21) written 50 years ago, William was also a teacher. Where he was educated or taught is not presently known. He died 30 Mar 1893, probably in Linn Co OR; however, he was buried in Dallas, Polk County, OR. Elizabeth [Adamson] Boyd was three months over 80 years of age when she died 6 Jan 1913, and was buried beside her husband.
