Amey also livd with Mary Surlena and Peter Dillow Jr., and with the family of Dr. Griffin Avett of Mill Creek. She remained with Dr. Avett until her marriage in 1869. He had moved from Tennesse to Union co in 1867 and established a Medical Practice in Mill Creek. Dr. Avett died in 1877, when he was thrown from his horse while returning from a saloon in Mill Creek. His obituary states that he "could have made a fortune had it not been for his sins, one of strong drink and conival company.'
