It has been published that her name was Goldwyer, and the inference was probably drawn from an old deed in Norfolk County Records, Vol II, page 231, in which Andrew mentions his brother-in-law George Goldwyer. George Goldwyer was not a brother of Andrew's wife, but he married Martha Moyse, a sister of Mary Moyse (Andrew's wife). His father watched with tears streaming down his cheeks as Ambrose went down the road. After arriving in Ohio, he worked awhile cutting wood for steamboats to pay for the expenses of his trip. He worked three years earning money to buy a farm and build a house and then he married Kay Ann, Jan. 1, 1841. (As I figure it he hadn't been in Ohio quite 3 years but that is near enough, so I'll leave it the way it was told to me). Married in New London Township, Huron County, Northern Ohio. Evenings he read to Katy Ann while she knitted or mended but always they went to bed at 9:00 o'clock. He sent at least three of his children at least a year apiece to Oberlin College. He finally owned 1,000 acres and was on the local school board for years. Katy had taught school awhile.' Marianne Ketcham, May 1972. Other info on Ambrose from County Clerk, Schenectady, NY.3 He was Baptist.3

According to B.A. Gould, Jane (Mrs. Weden) was probably his 2nd wife and not the mother of his children. There are 2 Stoke-Mandeville wills proved out in relative proximity to each other which both refer to a Richard GOLD and his wife of Stoke Mandeville: 1. This is the above will. Referring to a Richard GOLD of Bovington & Stoke Mandeville, husband of Jane WOEDEN. This will refers also to son Henry of Chalfont St. Peter and of Barkhanstead, St. Mary (a.k.a. Nortchurch). 2. The other will - that of Jane MRS. GOULD, dated Jun 26, ???? at Stoke Mandeville, proved Mar 29, 1560 - refers to husband Richard GOLD, sons William and Richard, and two daughters. There is some question as to whether these 2 wills refer to the same families, or even the same Richard GOLD. However, until further research clarifies the lineage, I'll give Benjamin Apthorpe Gould the benefit of the doubt and leave this Richard as the progenitor of both lines. --BLG 10/2/1998 Richard first married Jane .
