OBITUARY_______MRS. GEORGE FIELD

The death of Mrs. Geo. Field creates a vacancy that is almost like death to that home. The words of Kilbourn business men and people of social prominence were all to this effect: “She filled her place in life to perfection.” She was a leader in her sphere, a lady of rare tact and energy. There was never a time when trouble darkened a home or when sickness or suffering clouded a life that she did not respond to the prompting of a generous heart. The one decade on the Field farm was the epoch of her life and every business man in Kilbourn had words of praise at her death, several societies honored her, many homes in Kilbourn blessed her memory. The funeral services at the home were significant of the esteem in which she was held, people from all of the surrounding country, many of the most prominent people of Kilbourn attending. The song service was by Miss Flora Loomis, Mrs. Emma Ahrens, Messrs Legler and Straw. Rev A. V. Gulick conducted the services and spoke an eloquent tribute to her memory.

Mary A. Paine was born in Duchess county, New York in 1848. Her family came to Kilbourn in 1880 locating on the farm just beyond the farm of H. A. Field. In 1886 she was married to George Field. Her brother Dennis Paine of Iowa, and her niece, Miss Mamie Foster of Janesville, were the only members of her family here.
