Sheep could not be kept in Hudson then on account of the wolves. I have often heard my father tell of his mother sitting up till 12 or 1 o clock carding and spinning, the only light being what could be obtained from burning pine knots and splints. She was a large woman who resembled the Hon Caleb Blodgett's sister Lois and lived to be about eighty years old.1

John Blodgett was born on 26 November 1698 at Chelmsford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts; VR.2 He married Abigail Blanchard at Chelmsford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, on 21 April 1719.2,3 John Blodgett died between 1769 and 1776 at Westford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts; John was assessed for taxes in Chelmsford 1721-1725 and in Westford 1730-1735. Records ofthe family are found but are obscure; they were paupers or near paupers. Both John and Abigail signed deeds with a mark, deeding away Abigail's inheritance from her parents. There were three known children,Samuel, Esther, and James. Ester's "intents" were published to marry Leonard Foster, but he seems tohave married someone else. She seems to have had two children, oneabout 1759 and one about 1769. IN 1776 and at two other times, the town provided food and clothingfor John Blodgett's wife and girl (note: John was not named and may have died). In 1769, Nathaniel Boynton was re-imbursed L24-16-10, a sizeable son, for monies laid out as guardian of John and Abigail, both non-compos. In 1769, John was 71 and the non-compos was probably senility rather than insanity. Their son James raised a respectableand prosperous family in Westford, MA.2,4
