Mrs. Keener was born April 15, 1936, in Jonesboro, the daughter of Cletus and Clyde (Dillow) Barnhart. She was married to Lawrence F. Keener Sr., in Chester, on Jan. 23, 1954. He preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1985.
Survivors include one son, Lawrence (Jody) Keener Jr., of Dixon; two daughters, Kara (Andrew) Spearman of Dixon, and Kathleen (Byron) Faulkner of Danville; grandchildren, Nathan, Nikki, Brendon, Janay, Kaleesha, Ashley, Byron Jr., Andrew Jr., Jabiant?, and Andre; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kameron; and her Godchild Shantashia; two sisters, Kathleen Messemore, and Wanda Godman, both of Anna; six brothers, Wayne Barnhart of Kentucky, Wardell Barnhart of Anna, Carroll Barnhart of Missouri, Doyle Barnhart of Chester, Weldon Barnhart of Centralia, and Leroy Barnhart of Jonesboro.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother Clifton Barnhart.
She had been employed as a forklift operator for 29 years at Borg Warner Corp., in Dixon prior to her retirement in May 2003. She had worked as a volunteer at the Leydig Center in Dixon.
A memorial has been established to the Leydig Center in Dixon.2

     Jacob Wiley Barnhart was born on 15 December 1840 at Cabarrus County, North Carolina.2 He was Farmer, Dongola Precinct, P.O. Springville, Ill.1 He "On 9 Jul 1862, at Richmond, VA, Jacob enlisted in Co D, 34th North Carolina Confederate Regiment for service in the US Civil War. Except from November to December 1863, March to April of 1864, and July to August of 1864, when he was reported as 'absent sick,' he was present at each muster call. Jacob remained with his regiment until 25 Mar 1865, when he was captured by Union forces at Petersburg, and spent three months in the Point Lookout Prison in Maryland, arriving there 27 Mar 1865. He was released 23 Jun 1865, after signing an oath of allegiance to the United States government. His war record describe him as being 5 feet 9 inches tall, with dark hair, dark eyes, and dark complexion.
Jacob returned home to North Carolina, and workd a year and a half on his father's farm before coming to Illinis. He first found employment in a saw mill, and later purchased a farm of 166 acres in the Dongola Twp.2 He married Sarah Matilda Tilda Mowery at Union County, Illinois, on 27 April 1871.2 Jacob Wiley Barnhart lived; NC, IL.1 He died on 11 December 1904 at Piggott, Clay County, Arkansas, at age 63; "At his death, he owned 158 acres of land and 10 shares of capital stock in the Illinois Central Railroad, which was then valued at about $100.00.
Jacob served his community as school director, and was a member of the St Johns German Reformed Church. Along with many others in the congregation he donagted $50 to build the German Reformed Church in Wetaug in 1883. Jacob was also the song leader, and used to set the tunes at church service. On 13 Feb 1870, "Brother Barnhart was appointed to see that in the future there be better order than had been at St. John's."2 He was buried at Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery, Dongola, Union County, Illinois.2 He Self-made man; school director; Democrat; thorough, energetic prohibitionist; Both he and Sarah are members of Reformed Church; 'spent his youth in Cabarrus and Rowan Cos, N.C. where he farmed and received the rudiments of a common school education. At the age of 22, he was conscripted for the Southern army--served 3 years-- last 3 mos. were spent as a prisoner of war at Poi t Lookout.' Came to Union Co and worked for M.A. Goodman in saw mill. Farmer, Dongola Precinct, PO Springville.- History of Alexander, Union, and Pulaski Conties, Ill. 'He used to 'set the tunes' at St. John's Church.' Source? 'On July 9, 1862, at age 21, Jacob enlisted at Richmond, VA in the 34th Regt., NC Inf, CSA, as a volunteer for 3 years of service. He was captured near Petersburg, VA on Mar 25, 1865 and sent as a prisoner of war to City POint, VA. He was detained t Point Lookout MD for the next three months. On June 23, 1865 Jacob signed an oath of allegiance to the U.S. and was released. After working 1 1/2 years on his father's farm, he came to IL where he found a job in a saw mill at Dongola, UCI. Later Jacob bought 166 acres in T13S R1W Sec 34 for $300. His probate records indicate that at death he owned 158 acres of land and 10 shares of capital stock in the I.C. Railroad, which was valued at $10 at that time. He served as school director and was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church where he served as song leader. It is noted that on Feb 8, 1870 'Brother Barnhart was appointed to see that in the future there be better order than had been.'
