"In 1798 quite a large party of Sutton people went to Canada, and Lieutenant Hutchins and his family were probably among them. his wife, Abigail (Flood) Hutchins died there, Aug 19 1809, aged 71 years, and in a few months he returned to New Hampshire.2,3,4 He married Hannah Ayers at Salem, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, on 18 September 1810.5,4 He witnessed Hannah Ayers's death at Springfield, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, on 2 April 1824.5 William Hutchins married Mary Gile on 3 October 1824 at New London, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.4 William died on 3 June 1826 at New London, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, at age 87. He bought in 1762 part of Lot 44, Range 1 in Weare, NH. His cabin was on the south end of the lot. Sept 24 1772 he sold to Nathaniel Weed, and then built for himself a good house on the north end of Lot 64, Range 2. Here he kept a tavern, and sold an abundance of flip, egg-nog, punch, and apple toddy. He kept a fire that was always bright and a loggerhead that wa always hot, and was so genial that travelers liked to stop with him, and his neighbors, on cold winter days, to come in to gossip, hear the news, and discuss politics. He and his wife were baptized and received into the church April 19 1768. He was a sergeant at Bunker Hill, and was also in General Washington's army in NY. He was made second lieutenant in Capt J Gilman's company in the First New Hampshire Regiment. He did not return home with the rest of the Weare men, but continued in the service.
History of New London - "In 1825 Lieutenant Hutchins and his wife were living with Theodore Abbott, andhe was taxed for a horse. He also lived with Zaccheus Messer, who had m his daughter Hannah, and at Manning Seaman's where he d June 3 1826, aged 87 years, and is buried in the cemetery.".2

He received lot no 25 on the east side containing 250 acres. It was the first lot south of Fort Western. Hallowell was incorporated Apr 26 1771; and the town meeting held Sep 21 1772 was held in his barn. This was situated on what was called the Arsenal Lot. He removed probably about 1777 to Winthrop ME, thence in 1783 to Sandy River ME,and again in 1790 to Phillips ME, residing about one mile from the lower village. On the death of his father he started for Ohio, reaching Cincinnatti Oct 17 1817. In the fall of 1818 he moved to Maineville OH and there remained until his death. He was appointed surveyor at Farmington in 1786.1
