Elizabeth Jane Cruse was born say 1830 at Daviess County, Indiana.1 She was born on 4 October 1839 at Daviess County, Indiana; Acc to Cruse Descendants, Elizabeth Jane is dau of Elizabeth Bruce Stephens and Philip Cruse. However, Elizabeth Stephens died 3 yrs before Elizabeth'sbirth. Daviess County biography says Peter "was married three times; the first time to Sarah Rodick, who bore him these children: Seth H., Minerva, John R., Joseph W. and Elizabeth." Based on that, I have amended Elizabeth's birth date to 1830 (Gary Rolph May 2014)
Cruse Descendants Vol 1, p 73/485: "Elizabeth's birth date is lised as 4 October 1839 and ehr mother's name as "Elizabeth Kruse" as listed with the Illinois Board of Health (no certificate number). information for this death certificate was obtained from her youngest son, Charles, who was 24 years of age at the time. Charles listed his mother's name as "Elizabeth Kruse," birthplace "unknown," and the father as Kruse, birthplace "England." it seems strange that a 24-year-old grandson did not know these details about his grandparents, unless his parents did not speak of them for whatever reason.
Philip (Elizabeth's father) married Elizabeth Stephens on 13 Mar 1834 and it is unknown how or when the marriage ended. However Philip didmarry a third time on 7 Mar 1837 to Sarah Carnahan. So the question is: Did Philip divorce Elizabeth (or did Elizabeth die) priorto his marriage to Miss Carnahan? And was Elizabeth Jane the daughter of the discarded Elizabeth Stephens, perhaps born after a divorce from Philip?
As an eleven year old, it is also strange that Elizabeth was not listed as living in her father's household at the time of the 1850 census. She could have been living in anothr household and possibly was a daughter of a brother of Philip. Elizabeth Jane, who was living in 1885 at the time of her father's death, was not mentined in Philip's obituary in the Daviess County Democrat, Vol 18, No 31, Saturday, june 27, 1885, although five children by his first wife are referenced (butnot named), of which onlyone, John, was living at that time. The second marriage produced one child who was dead in 1885. The third marriage produced two children, both dead in 1885. Why was she not mentioned in Philip's obituary? Another explanation could be that Elizabeth was a niece of philip, being the daughter of one of his brothers.2 As of 28 December 1854,her married name was Webber.3 She married Peter Ham Webber on 28 December 1854 at Daviess County, Indiana.3 She witnessed Peter Ham Webber's death at Daviess County, Indiana, circa 1892. Birth 1834
Death 1892
Elizabeth Webber's data is on the other side of the stone.3,4 Elizabeth Jane Cruse died on 27 September 1907 at Alfordsville, Daviess County, Indiana, at age 67; buried in Old City Cemetery, Washington, Daviess County, IN.3

Charles F Cruse was born on 30 November 1837 at Daviess County, Indiana.1 He was born say 1839 at Daviess County, Indiana; Cruse Descendants has Charles F as son of Philip Cruse and Elizabeth Bruce Stephens, but proposed date (30 Nov 1837) is too near to James Cruse (14 Feb 1838) and after Philip had married Sarah Carnahan ( and presumably Elizabeth Bruce Stephens had died). I suggest 1839 based on Davies bios that says: "[Philip] was married three times; the first time to Sarah Rodick, who bore him these children: Seth H., Minerva, John R., Joseph W. and Elizabeth."2 He died on 7 December 1848 at Daviess County, Indiana.1
