Elizabeth may be born between the years 1766-1784 based on a 1810 census of a John Martin. We know she married a Martin and he is the only Martin in the area where the family lived in 1810 but she could have moved somewhere else with her Martin husband. Little is known about Elizabeth Sears child of Johannes Zaher the Swiss Immigrant and his wife Barbara Miller. Elizabeth is listed as heir of Johannes in the court records of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky indenture for Mary Ferguson widow of Joshua Ferguson 27 June 1844. In this document Elizabeth is stated to be married to a man whose last name is Martin. The first name is not given and the only real possibility is John Martin who is in the 1799 tax list of Muhlenberg as new young man with no land. If he just joined the tax list for the first time this year he would be 21 and would put his birth at 1778 this would be a perfect age range for Elizabeth Sears. However at this point we only know she married a Martin and not who. The early Martin family of two famous preachers George and David Martin were in the communities with the Sears so most likely her husband is related to these lines. The following are possible connected Martin records for consideration investigating husband of Elizabeth Sears.Possibly Martin spouses that knew the Sears family or their Dunkard relationships. It can be assumed that Elizabeth husband maybe from the list of Martin families in 1810 Muhlenberg, The census lists, Elizabeth, Henry, Hugh, Hutson, James, John, Marlin,Thomas and William. The most likely is John since he is listed in 1799 Muhlenberg tax as the only Martin in the Dunkard community. From Roger Sappington "The Brethren in the Carolinas"1971 in it he says that "James Hendricks was a minister at Cranes Creek, that he had land there in 1775, and in 1790 moved to Dutchman's Creek (forks of the Yadkin. He came down from the Little Conewago Church NW of Reading, PA. Dutchmans creek ongregation is the location of both John and James Hendricks.Gaspar Rowland was also there, 1778, Weavers Creek. He was ordained in 1775 by David Martin. Elder Joseph Rowland was in the Hinkston Creek Church, he lived in Bourbon Co. Rowland girls seem to be married into most of the main Kentucky families going even to Missouri before 1800. David martin lived on the Broad River in So. Carolina. He was a son of Elder George Adam Martin, an Ephrata Sabbatarian. David Martin somehow was not brought up before Annual meeting. He was probably the leader of the Universalist movement in the Carolinas, even more Univeralist than John Hendricks.#181 Jacob Martin 1725-1790 Some of his papers are in the Penn State Archives in the Ephrata Cloister Collection#229 Deed Book 19 pg 95 Rowan County, North Carolina 5 Nov 1804 Samuel (x) Bracken to John Martin for $140 , 108 Adj Conrad Graves and Jonisen (?)
