John Bowen1

M, b. 28 May 1789, d. 8 April 1852
John Bowen was born on 28 May 1789 at Pennsylvania; date from age on tombstone in Owen County Indiana.1,2,3 He married Eleanor Scott at Washington County, Ohio, on 28 July 1811.3 John was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 Census at Jackson Township, Monroe County, Ohio. Judy Weisberg, email to Gary Rolph, wrote: "I found a John with the correct birth dates and the correct distribution of children in Washington/Monroe county OH in 1820. None of the other John Bowens (or spelling variants) in OH in 1820 fit that configuration. So I've always worked from that premise. Also, an elderly researcher, who died before I really had worked back to OH links believed my John Sr (he has a son John so I designate Sr and Jr just to keep them separate.) was related to her group of Bowen brothers in Monore co OH formed from Washington Co OH. She believed this group came from Greene Co PA. We've been travelling a bit recently so I've been able to look at Greene Co PA records and do find a Bowen family there. There were Bowen men in various militias formed there prior to the revolution. But I can't definitely link any of my folks to these. Earlier than Owne I have no definite proof."
Perhaps she is referring to this census entry:
John Bowen (looks that way although is index Borieen) 2 males 0-9; 1 male 26-44; 4 females 0-9; 1 female 26-44; possible reconstruction:
2 males 0-9 – Arthur 8, unknown
1 male 26-44 – John 41
4 females 0-9 – Jane, Nancy, Elizabeth, Harriett
1 female 26-44 – Eleanor 28

near neighbor is Daniel Bowen, also 26-44 -- possibly a brother?.4 He lived between 1823 and 1828 at Owen County, Indiana; County History says Bowen Family came to Owen County IN in 1823. A tax lister book shows John Bowen family in Owen County IN in 1828.5 John was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census at Owen County, Indiana. Judy Weisberg, email Jan 05, wrote:
