The funeral of Mrs. Atlanta Ward Grover was held on Thursday forenoon from the J.M. Hiltz residence in Harrison township where short services were conducted by Rev. A.L. Golden of the Marion street ME. Church of this city. The funeral cortege arrived in this city after noon and services were held at the First ME. Church at 1:00 o’clock. Rev. Golden had charge of the services and preached the sermon. He was assisted by Revs. Geo. D. Crissman of the First M.E. church and W.J. Coulston, pastor of the Baptist church. The musical numbers were given by Misses Marie Kinsman and Lucile Good and Messrs. John Dyer and Clarence Kelly. Miss Helen Bonnard was organist. The pallbearers were Messrs. James Brown, C. Morrison, Vince Myers, John Myers, George Throckmorton and William Tyler. The remains were laid to rest in Linwood Park cemetery. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Louis King, John Kirgis of Perry and Mr. and Mrs. L.R. Hiltz of Revillo, South Dakota. The deceased was a faithful member of the Methodist church and for several years her membership was with the Prairie Center church east of the city. Atlanta Ward Grover was born in New York State April 23, 1828 and died January 28, 1913, at the home of her daughter J.M. Hiltz, who resides in Harrison township, nine miles northeast of Boone, where Mrs. Grover made her home for many years. She was 84 years, 9 months and 18 days old. When a child of four years she came with her parents to Illinois when Chicago was only an Indian trading point and settled in Will county. She remained there until her marriage with Justin L. Grover, living in Indiana and Ohio where her husband enlisted in the army, dying from typhoid fever in the year 1865 in North Carolina, leaving her the care of three girls, to whom she gave a life of devotion. Mrs. Ella Little, Quitman, Missouri; Mrs. Ida Hiltz, Harrison township, and Mrs. Lucy McPherson, Boone, Iowa, who were present and cared for her during her last illness. She has living seven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She has living in this city a sister, Mrs. G.D. Johnson, a sister in law, Mrs. L.J. Ward, and granddaughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ahrens, who also assisted through her long illness, two nephews, E.E. Ward and G.A. Johnson. From out of the city, who also cared for her were Harry Little, of Appleton, Illinois, Clyde McPherson and wife, a grandson who she cared for a number of years. She has several nephews and nieces in Illinois and one half-brother residing in North Yahkima, Washington.2,5
