Mary Scollard was also known as Mary Scullard.3 They had thee children born in Newbury prior to relocating to Nantucket where they had 5 born. They relocated to a part of Cambridge, now Arliington abt 1672 where he purchased & operated "Cook's Mill" and where 3, and probably 4, children were born. He died 10/1/1681 in Newbury at the home of his brother Benjamin. After his death, with the exception of dau Rebecca, the family moved to Woodbridge, NH and changed the spelling of their name to "Rolph"'
From the James Munger web page, quoting Early Rolfe Settlers of New England: John came with his parents to America in the "Confidence" in 1638.
Shortly after John's return to Newbury (1663), he, Mary and their daughters, Mary and Rebecca relocated to Nantucket (he was one of the proprietors of Nantucket in July 1663), where their next five children were born. About 1672 the family relocated to a part of Cambridge that is now Arlington where he purchased and operated "Cook's Mill". Three, possibly four of their children were born there.
He later returned to Newbury, Massachusetts.
John died October 1, 1681 at Newbury in the home of his brother, Benjamin. He had purchased land in Woodbridge, NJ shortly prior to his death. It was shortly after his death that the family, with the exception of the daughter Rebecca, relocated to Woodbridge where they changed the spelling of their surname to Rolph.4,5 She was born on 9 January 1641/42 at Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts; daughter of Samuel and Rebecca (Kent) Scollard of Newbury -- Rolfe Family, which has birthplace as England.1,3 As of 4 December 1656,her married name was Rolfe.1 She married John Rolfe, son of Henry Rolfe and Honour Rolfe, on 4 December 1656 at Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.1 Her married name was Rolfe.2 It was after the birth of their 3rd child and while John was away from Newbury that Mary became involved in a scandal with a Dr. Henry Greenland, a new-comer to Newbury. He was found guilty of adultery and ordered out of Newbury. He went first to Kittery, Maine, from where he was forced to leave. He then relocated to Piscataway New Jersey where he and his family settled.1 Traveling next to court in Ipswich, Massachusetts, the Captain [Walter Barefoot] posted a bond to ensure the future good behavior of his friend and fellow doctor, Henry Greenland (in trouble for “soliciting Mary, wife of John Roffe, to adultery”). April brought Barefoot to court in Salisbury, Massachusetts, then to Dover in June, where he won sizeable verdicts against debtors for £25 in “money or beaver.” Two days after the Dover court session, Barefoot was in York, Maine, with suits “for unjustly molesting his person & estate,” and for debt, netting judgments of more than £91. He returned to Ipswich in September to testify for Henry Greenland, accused again of “attempting” Goodwife Roffe’s “chastity in a foul manner.” By late November, Captain Barefoot came to Greenland’s aid a third time, serving as his attorney in a Salem slander suit for calling someone “a lying knave.
From the Munger family, quoting "The Early Rolfe Settlers of NE" (Fred Rolfe): "It was after the birth of their 3rd child and while John was away from Newbury that Mary became involved in a scandal with a Dr. Henry Greenland, a new-comer to Newbury. He was found guilty of adultery and ordered out of Newbury. He went first to Kittery, Maine from where he was forced to leave. He then relocated to Piscataway, New Jersey where he and his family settled."6,5 John and Mary immigrated, in 1663. Destination: an unknown place .1 John and Mary immigrated, in 1672. Destination: an unknown place .1 She witnessed John Rolfe's death at Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts, on 1 October 1681. John died 1 Oct 1681 at Newbury in the home of his brother Benjamin.
