This passage from Ancestry of Jams Oliver Cramb & his wife Lydia Alphonisine Kelsey (p 9) explains the confusion: 'The History of Raymond NH states that a Wadleigh Cram was drowned rafting logs in 1770. It has generally been thought this was Wadleigh Cram 1st, and that his son, Wadleigh Cram 2nd was the one who died in 1784 and had a widow Hannah, but that now seems not to be the case. Elmer H Cram found a deed at Exeter NH (Rockingham County) from Wadleigh Cram to his son Robert, made Juy 23 1767, and acknowledged before a Justice of the Peace Dec 22 1770. Thi was Wadleigh Cram 1st, as he a son Robert, and would prove that he was alive as late as Dec 22 1770. This deed was signed and acknowledged at Deerfield proving that Wadleigh Cram 1st lived there in 1770 but it is evident that he later moved to Raymond where he died in 1784. It is also evident that Wadleigh Cram 2nd was drowned in 1770, when he was 42 years old.3'"
