Betsy, or Elizabeth, would have been born in Sep of 1798. Elizabeth was placed under the guardianship of John Miller, along with her brothers Michael and John, on 9 Aug 1805. Since Betsy or Elizabeth was not included in Jacob's will of 8 Mar 1822, she was apparently by then dead, and without issue."2 She 'Betsy Dilow aged 6 years and 5 months bound to Christina Miller until she arrives at the age of 18 years.' Minutes of the Rowan County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, February 5, 1805. That this seems to be a sister of Michael and John is the following from August 9, 1805: 'Jacob Miller appointed guardian of Michl, John, and Elizabeth Dillow gave bond with James Daniel andFred Miller in 100 pounds each.' But if she is sister, she predeceased Jacob, who died in 1822.1

He punished one of his boys one time and the other twice. Their mother having died, Daniel took a mother's place as much as a father's. After Catherine's death, Elizabeth, the wife of Daniel's brother David, who lived on a nearby farm, visited the family once a week to help Amy, Daniel's 14 year old daughter care for the home and do the housework. Daniel's second wife, Catherine Dillow, was a younger sister of Elizabeth, who may have played the role of matchmaker in the relationship.
Daniel and Catherine were members of the Lutheran church. The Mowery family were very talented singers, and Daniel used to 'set the tunes' or was the song leader at church services. The family was said to have enjoyed spending their evenings singing until 1864, when the family became sick with typhoid fever. Daniel and 3 of his children died that autumn. 'Those who were left, sang no more,' the family history recorded."6 She died on 8 September 1864 at Ullin, Alexander County, Illinois, at age 18; 'She was a fine seamstress and a beautiful singer. Paul Dillow, her fiance, is said to have stood at the foot of her bed while she and her sister Susan sang for the last time 'I'm Going Home to Die No More.' --Konrad Dillow

Dillow Family, p 206: "died 8 Sep 1864 in Ullin, Alexander Co IL and was buried in St John's Cem., Dongola, Union Co. Elizabeth was a fine seamstress, and spent much of her time sewing. She had a beautiful singing voice, and when she and her sister Susan were both ill in the autumn of 1864 they spent many hours singing together as long as they were able. The last song they sang was a hymn, "I'm HOme to Die No More." Elizabeth was reported to have been a beautiful girl, and engaged to marry Paul Dillow, a brother of her stepmother. Paul was standing at the foot of her bed at her death, and said that he 'had never expected to have to live through such sorrow.' Elizabeth was the last of the three children of Catherine and Daniel to die of typhoid fever all within 33 days."2 She was buried at Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery, Dongola, Union County, Illinois.1
