Jesse Putnam1

     Jesse Putnam was born on 25 March 1743 at Framingham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts; Framingham VR; s John & Sarah
Putnam Leaflets says child should be omitted because not in family record.2 He was ensign.1 He died say 1782 at New York; Historyof the Putnam Fam, p. 186 - In 1759 he was on the roll of a militia company in Sudbury. In 1835 his brother John gave the following account of him - 'He went out in the French and Indian war, became entirely blind but was cared for and cured by the British surgeons, after which he remained in the Brish service. During the Revolution he held the commissionof Ensign. At the close of the war he was in New York and died there. He was buried witht he honors of war. It is worth noting that this Jesse, with the exception of Hon James Putnam, and his son James, is the only one of the name who has held commissions in the British service since 1775.3

He married Mary Dillow, first. Of nine children born to Adam and Mary Powlas, only Mary C Wright is buried at Unity; three moved to Illinois, others settled in eastern Rowan County. Second, Adam Powlas married Margaret Hoffner.
