William Perham was born on 16 July 1706 at Chelmsford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts; VR; s of John & Lydia.1,2 He married Lydia Pratt at Grafton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, on 2 October 1747.1,3 William Perham lived; 'in that part of Sutton that became Grafton.1 He 'John Perham and his two sons came from Chelmsford and were among those who signed the petition to create a separate town in 1735. The father and one son moved to Grafton, but another son, Benjamin, lived all his married life in Upton. Benjamin's s n, Lemuel, born in 1735, was a tavern keeper in West Upton for many years. His tavern was probably what came to later to be known as the Warren Tavern. These early settlers were nomadic people who restlessly settled all New England. Many came and went, always seeking greener pastures. Those who were satisfied with what they found stayed, or there would have been no permanent settlements. The Hazeltines first settled in Wenham, then married into Rowley families and moved there. The Batchelors were from Wenham; the Perhams, from Chelmsford. These were all latecomers and for that reason were a long way from center house lots in Sutton (p. 10). . .The Sutton town meeting for 1731/ 32 considered the petition 'of oure Esterly in habitants requesting they may be set of in order to joyne with mendon, uxbridge, and hopkinton in order to make a new township. . .Voted that if ye towns afore s'd shall se met to dismis their Inhabitants in order their to and ye eneral court shall incorporate them into a town then these our inhabitanta are Dismissed in order there to - ye line to run upon ye westerly side of John Hazeltins land to run north to Hasnemisco Line and south to uxbridge line. . . At the March 5 Sutton town meeting for 1732/ 33, according to the minutes, 'It as put to vote to see wheather ye Town would free eleven of our esterly inhabitatns of haff thare minesters Rate for ye years ensuing and ye vote Past in ye afarmitive and ye Parsons freed off haff their minesters Rate are as follows; John Perham John Hazeltine, Joseph Kidder, David Bacthelder, William Perham, Joseph Tyler, Jonathan Smaith, Samuel Wood, Benjamin Perham, John Rawson, Joseph Whipple.' John and William Perham, Joseph Kidder, Jonathan Smaith, John Rawson, and Joseph Whipple were residents of that part of Sutton which became Grafton (p. 21).
