He had left his home that morning, apparently in good health and spirits to look over the farm, as he did frequently. When he failed to return at the usual hour, his daughter who lived with him became alarmed. After searching for some time, and failing to learn anything of his whereabouts, she enlisted the help of Mr. Lingle, who found the body several yards from the farm house, lying at the side of the road. His head was in a ditch, with his body and feet extending upward on the embankement. From appearance, he had been using a grubbing hoe along the embankment, and had built a fire nearby where he had burned the brush. When the stroke came, he doubtless fell down the embankment as the position of his body, when found, clearly indicated."2 He 'Before Henry m, he clerked in John Holshouser's store in Dongola, where he was remembered as a cheerful, fun loving, and well liked man, ready to serve his customers with a smile. Henry was very active in the Masonic fraternity, which he represente in the Grand Masonic Lodge when he and Delia went to Chicago on their honeymoon. In 1873, Henry made plans to join the 'Grand Masonic Excursion' to the Holy Land on a chartered vessel. The Dongola correspondent for the Jonesboro Gazette asked Henry, as a man of intelligence and humor, to write a book on his travels. In 1876, Henry went into what proved to be a profitable mercantile business with his father-in-law in Wetaug. His brother John replaced him as clerk in Holshouser's store. Henry also farmed in the Wetaug area. After their marriage, he and Adelia bought a home in Dongola and in 1875 bought another house in Bridgeport, IL, probably for resale or rental purposes, as Henry and Adelia never lived in it.'
