Obituary

Wanda H. Louman, 91, of Yakima passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.

Wanda was born in Tacoma, Washington on April 16, 1926 to Haldis and Clifford Hanson. She was raised in Tacoma and graduated from Stadium High School in 1945 where she was the business manager for the school paper.

Wanda began her office and bookkeeping career while still in high school working for a local furnace company. After graduation, she worked in the office of a low-cost housing complex built during World War II. Wanda loved to dance and traveled to the Army base with her friends in those early days after the war for the USO dances.

It was during a DAV convention in 1946 that she met a handsome young professional baseball player from Yakima who would become her husband of 60 years. Wanda married Jack Louman on January 5, 1947 in Yakima and began a life of a baseball wife. Jack had signed with the St. Louis Browns organization (now Baltimore Orioles) in 1941 and played shortstop for two years with the Pueblo, CO Double A team minor leagues before leaving to join the Marine Corps during World War II. After being honorably discharged in October 1945, Jack returned to his baseball career.

Wanda lived the nomadic baseball life with her new husband for five years. That life, however, became more difficult with the birth of their first child Jack, Jr. in December 1948. The Cleveland Indians made an offer to St Louis to obtain Jack's contract and have him replace their retiring shortstop. Unfortunately, the Browns would not release him, so when contemplating having a second child (Jeff) they decided to give up baseball and return to Yakima.

Back in Yakima, Wanda returned to her office/bookkeeping career working for a local real estate firm for many years before joining J.M. Perry Institute as their bookkeeper in the mid-1960s. She later joined the accounting firm of Day, Ludwig, and Criddle until her retirement in 1991. She was a dedicated and tireless employee throughout her working career.

Wanda was all about family. Every night she would talk on the phone with her Mother and sisters, Myrtle and Elaine. Almost every Sunday night all the families would have dinner together. This dinner tradition carried on after her parents had passed but now with the new families of her sons, Jack and Jeff. As she was an excellent cook, everyone was very happy to have her host these dinners.

Her life as a sport wife to Jack expanded as her sons grew to include that of a sports Mom. With Jack playing fastpitch softball in the evenings and the two boys playing baseball, Wanda was in constant motion going from one game to the next, most often being the chauffeur for one or both sons.

Her one true hobby/passion was shopping! Every weekend she would go out looking through the stores, generally by herself and only occasionally buying something. Once her grandchildren came into her life, she now had constant companions to join her in scouring the stores.

Wanda was a loving daughter, sister, wife and Mother who was always there to support and take care of her family. She was a wonderful person who always had a kind word or helping hand. She was a woman of strong spiritual character who enjoyed people, rarely said an unkind word, and maintained lasting friendships with those in her personal and professional life. It was a blessing to have known her and especially to have her as your daughter, sister, wife, Mother, or friend.

Wanda is survived by her son Jeff Louman (Teresa); grandchildren Jack Louman III (Brooke), Jennifer Davis (Jason), Julianne Louman; sister Elaine Crane (Joe); daughter-in-law Libby Louman, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Sr., son Jack Jr., parents, brother Clifford, sister Myrtle and granddaughter Jamielynn.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Keith and Keith Funeral Home, 902 West Yakima Avenue. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Wanda's memory may donate to the Parker Youth Foundation in care of Keith and Keith Funeral Home. JACK HARRY LOUMAN, JR.
December 29, 1948 ~ July 27, 2012

Jack Harry Louman, Jr. of Vancouver, WA passed from this life to heaven on Fri., July 27th at approximately 3:00 p.m. When Jack departed, he was in his home and in the arms of Libby Louman, his wife of 36 years. He was surrounded by his son Jack III, daughter Julianne, his brother Jeff and a number of his closest friends.
Jack was born Dec. 29, 1948, the first of two sons born to Jack and Wanda Louman in Yakima, WA. After an active childhood of hunting, golf, wrestling and baseball, Jack left Yakima to attend Lewis and Clark College where he majored in Business.
Along with being a deeply devoted husband and father, Jack was a conscientious citizen who was involved in a variety of political affairs and public policy issues throughout his life. Jack was also one of the founding members of the Oregon Family Council, an influential non-profit organization dedicated to protecting religious freedoms and family values.
Jack is perhaps best known as an Executive Pastor of City Bible Church, a local church with four campuses in the Portland/Vancouver area and home to 6,000 regular attenders, where he's served for nearly 40 years. He was a sought after speaker and advisor who was regularly called upon to travel from coast-to-coast and more than 25 nations including Japan, Argentina, South Africa and Bolivia.
Whether serving at home or abroad, Jack was a go-to guy. He had an uncanny ability (his friends called it a gift) to help people turn challenges into opportunities, hardships into possibilities and poor decisions into meaningful life lessons.
Jack leaves on earth his Irish bride Libby; daughter, Julianne; son Jack and his wife, Brooke and their three children Peniel, Rafe and Sedric. He also leaves his mother, Wanda; and brother Jeff and his wife, Teresa.
Jack will be greeted in heaven by his daughter, Jamie Lynn; and his father, Jack, whom he was named after.
A home going service will be held on Sat., Aug. 4th at 3:00 p.m. at City Bible Church's Rocky Butte Campus at 9200 NE Fremont in Portland.

"1 female born 1814-1815 - Researchers have a Minerva [Manerva] DeWhitt," purported daughter of William DeWhitt, born 1819-1822, married 1835 John Lovelady. I think this is perhaps the "Manerva Lovelady" found in the 1860 US Census, image 16 of 36 Buttersville, Alen County, KY, age 45 (thus born 1815). She is living with "Z B Dixon," perhaps a daughter (although the daughter researchers have an Marczella Zyrilda Lovelady who married Adam Robert Wainscott). She is probably the "M Lovelady" 33 years old (thus born 1817) in the 1850 census. In the 1860 census she was born in Tennessee and in the 1850 census (image 43 of 141, Simpson County, KY) her place of birth is "unknown." Two of her children were born in Tennessee, then two in Illinois, then the youngest in Tennessee. John died 1846-1850, probably in Tennessee.
