Francis White1

M, b. circa 1560, d. 1637/38
Francis White was born circa 1560.1 He was Bishop of Carlisle.1 He married an unknown person.1 He lived; that this is father of William is.1 He died in 1637/38 at palace, Holborn, England.1 He was buried at St. Paul's, London, Greater London County, England.1 He Certain Comeoverers, by Crapo -- William White is said to have been the son of a Bishop of the Church of England. If this be so, which I regard as extremely doubtful, it may have been Francis White born at St. Noets, Huntingdonshire, educatecd at Cassius College, Cambridge, and after many preferments made Bishop of Carlisle, and Lord Almoner to the King (Charles I), then translated to Norwich, and in 1631 to Ely. In February 1637-38, he died in his palace in Holborn and was buried in Saint Paul's, London. If your ancestor, William White, was indeed the son of so distinguished a Church of England divine, he must have felt the difficulties of domestic revolt before he came into conflict with the established order of society and was forced into exile into Holland. He may well have deserved the description whic some pious descendant gives us, to the effect that he 'was one of the that little handful of God's own wheat flailed by adversity, tossed and winnowed untl earthly selfishness had been beaten from them and left them pure seed fit for the planting of a new world.' Nebraska and Midwest Gen Record (Lincoln Neb), Jan 1926, p. 231 (Ancestry and Posterity of Abner White of Duchess County, NY), has William White as son of Bishop John White.1 He was 'extremely doubtful' -- see notes.1

Susannah Cruse was born between 1767 and 1768 at Rowan County, North Carolina; "Original records listed Susanna being ninth child of Philip and Catherine, but original record showed her confirmed at Organ Lutheran Church Easter Sunday, 1782. Since she must have been at least twelve years old when confirmed, she must have been born before 1770, and with the dates of her siblings' births, she must have been born before Margaretha. Therefore, the birth year of 1768 is a guess." Cruse Descendants Vol 1, p. 14/ 485.2,3,4 She was christened in 1782 at Zion (Organ) Lutheran Church, Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina; Easter Sunday.5 She married George Goodman Sr. at Rowan County, North Carolina, circa 1792.4 As of circa 1792,her married name was Goodman.1 Susannah Goodman was census 1800 in September 1800 at Salisbury, Cabarrus County, North Carolina; George Goodman Sr. 30001 23010
3 males 0-9; 1 male 45+ (Daniel, Christian, plus 1 more 0-9; George would be 50)
2 females 0-9; 3 females 10 thr 15; 1 female 26 thru 44 ( Elizabeth and 1 more 0-9; 3 daughters from first marriage?; Susannah would be born 1756-1776.6 She died in June 1804 at Rowan County, North Carolina; "Also, original records give her death date as June 1804, and her last child, Mary Ann Goodman, born 19 April 1805, or ten months after her death. The birth date of the last child must have been before Susannah's death, so best guess is 19 Apr 1804." Cruse Descendants Vol. 1, p. 14/485.4 She was buried on 6 June 1804 at Phaniel's Church Cemetery, Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina.4 Family of Johann Philip Cruse (1995) - INformation regarding birth, death, and children previously attributed to Susannah (Cruse) Goodman has been found to refer to Rosannah (Hess) Goodman, the wife of George Goodman, Jr., We have a christening date for Susannah and it is assumed that the wife of George Goodman that was buried 6 Jun 1804 by Pastor Storch at Organ Luth Ch was Susannah. While it canot be verifed with facts, it appears likely that Susannah was married to George Goodman, Sr., after the death of Rosana Foil, mother of George Goodman, Jr. George Goodman, Sr., is listed in the 1790 Mecklenburg County; 1800 and 1810 Cabarrus County census records and George Goodman, Jr., is listed in the 1800, 1810, and 1820 Cabarrus County census records. From the transfer of Johann Philip Cruse's land 16 Sep 1805 (as deceased had bound himself on 4 Feb 1803 to Henry Cruse and endorsed by Henry to Peter Cruse) it is evident that Susannah was married to a George Goodman and of the George Goodmans that were recorded as being in the area, it appears likely that it was George Goodman, Sr. George Goodman was bondsman for Adam Cruse at his marriage to Rosena Cress 18 Oct 1784. It is not probable that this bondsman was George Goodman, Jr., as he was only 12 years of age at this time and it is assumed that it was George Goodman, Sr., indicating he was a close friend of the family at this time. INformation regarding children who are not tied to George Goodman, Jr., is being attributed to Susannah Cruse and George Goodman, Sr.1 She was an heir at the probate of Johann Phillip Grüss and Anna Catherina Grüss on 5 September 1805 at Rowan County, North Carolina; On 5 September 1805 Henry Cruse, Peter Eddleman (Elizabeth Cruse's husband),
John Berger (Margaretha Cruse's husband), of Rowan County, North Carolina, Adam Cruse, Andrew Cruse, George
Goodman (Susannah Cruse's husband), and Jacob Lingle (Anna Maria Cruse's husband) of Cabarrus County, North Carolina, and Elias Meyers ( Magdalena Cruse's husband) of
Berk County, North
Carolina, the heirs of Philip Cruse, conveyed his land lying on the Rowan-Cabarrus
County line.7
