Probably not the same DeWitt clan, because he was born NY and his father was born in PA and his mother in Canada.4,5 They witnessed Elizabeth Kelly Palmore's death at Moline, Elk County, Kansas, on 10 June 1906. OBITUARY: Elizabeth Kelly Palmore DeWitt (1818-1906)

Died, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. N.E. Turner, at 8 o’clock p.m., Sunday, June 10, 1906,
Mrs. Elizabeth K. DeWitt. The funeral services was held at the house Tuesday, June 12, preached by the pastor of the Christian church. The interment was made in the Howard cemetery. OBITUARY Elizabeth K. Palmore was born in Monroe county, Kentucky, December 28, 1818; was married in 1838 to Henry DeWitt, pioneer preacher of the Christian Church. To this union were born seven children of whom there survive three. Wm. A., and Samuel E. DeWitt, Pond Creek, Okla., and N.E. Turner with whom she had made her home for the thirty-two years of her widowhood. Mrs. DeWitt lived in Kentucky in the trying times of the civil war. She gave two sons to the defence of this country one of whom gave up his life on the field of battle. In 1864 she with her family moved to Illinois where they lived until they came to Elk County, Kansas, in 1871. She and her family were identified with the early history of this country, and will be remembered by the older citizens of Howard and vicinity. Mrs. DeWitt has been a member and a worker in the Christian church since her early youth, exemplifying the Christian life in the home. Owing to her advanced age and infirmities she has been deprived of
the privileges of attending public services for several years past, but have been quiet and patient and with a heart full of heaven’s own sunshine has waited for the call home. Her age was 87 years, 6 months and 13 days.

Note from Roma Turner: I have the original of this obituary. It was probably printed in the old Moline Mercury newspaper, Moline, Ks, or perhaps a
newspaper of the time from Howard, Ks. Roma J. Turner, great, great granddaughter of Elizabeth K. Palmore DeWitt and great granddaughter of Nancy Elizabeth DeWitt Turner.

Last evening a dispatch arrived from Fresno stating that elder A.W. Dewitt had died at Big Sandy east of Auberry Valley in that county, at 8 oclock that morning. It was a sad surprise to the many friends of the deceased in this city. From Mark DeWitt, who had been with him, and who returned to this city with the remains this morning, we learn that on Sunday last deceased was feeling quite well, and that on that day he preached two sermons and baptized three persons. Mark says he never knew his father's voice to be so clear and distinct as in the delivery of his last sermon. It was his intention to start for Fresno on his way home the next day, but on Sunday evening he was taken ill and got much worse by Monday. ON Tuesday Dr. Pace of this city was sent for but did not arrive until after Mr. DeWitt's death. Elder DeWitt was known widely throughout this valley. There is hardly a city or hamlet in Tulare and Fresno Counties, in the mountains or on the plain, whose people, old and young, did not know the kindly face of the old gentlemen who had gone his simple, unobtrusive way among them. His life work has been preaching and always he has gone out into the smaller communities where a regular pastor could not be maintained. He was born in KY in 1820 and began preaching in 1846. IN 1853 he moved to IL and in 1859 came to CA, settling in the upper Sacramento Valley. He came from Colusa to Tulare in 1877 and his labors here are familiar to all. His estimable wife, with whom he had walked life's journey for 54 years, died near this city on the 4th of last July. 'Grandpa' DeWitt was loved by all. His daily conduct was the service of his Master and his was as nearly the perfect Christian life as mortal can reach. Deceased leaves 4 children, namely, Mrs. J. B. Zumwalt, S. H., W.M., and E. DeWitt. Mrs. Zumwalt will arrive from Irvington tonight. The remains will be laid to rest tomorrow, services being held at the Christian church at 10 am. in 1888.1 He appeared on the census of 16 October 1890 at Enterprise, Tulare County, California; DeWitt, Allen Wakefield, age 70, Kentucky, Enterprise, p. 23, Oct 16.7 He appeared on the census of 26 September 1892 at Tulare, Tulare County, California; Great Register of Tulare County, #1681 (p. 22), age 72, height 5 ft 9 1/2 in, light complexion, hazel eyes, grey hair, right hand crippled, native of KY, resident of Tulare, PO address Tulare, date of registration Sep 26, 1892.1 He was buried at Tulare, Tulare County, California; Tulare Cemetery.1 He was Christian Church.1 He died on 31 May 1897 at Big Sandy, Fresno County, California; "AW died the next year, 31 May 1897, while visiting in Big Sandy, Fresno County, CA."
another source has died Big Sandy east of Auberry Valley, Fresno, CA, aged 73 years; familysearch.org has date of death 1 Jun 1893 and place Tulare, Tulare, CA (as does McWhirter email.)4,2
