He married Honor Treat at Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut, say 1637.3 He made a will at Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut, between 26 June 1690 and 3 February 1692.3 John Deming died between 3 February 1692 and 21 November 1705 at Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut; helped found the town of Wethersfield

When the public lands were alloted to the inhabitants in 1695, he did not draw a portion. It is probable that he died soon afgter 1692, although his will was not provied until 21 Nov 1705, and Savage and other geneologists have assumed that he lived until that year."
"On the reverse side of the will appears the following: "Att a court of Probates holden at Hartford, Nov 21 1705, Zachariah Sandford one of the witnesses of the within written last Will of Mr. John Deming dec'd appeared in this Court and made Solemn Oath, that he was present & saw the Sd John Deming Subscribe & Seal the Addition or Codicill to the Sd within written Will, and did hear the Sd John Deming declare the same, with what else is contained in this sheet, to be his last Will & Testament and that they John Allyn, Esq, the other of the Sd witnesses was present also, and With him Signed as Witnesses thereunto, & that the Sd John Deming was at the Same Time (according to his judgment) of Sound and disposeing mind and Understanding.      Sgt. John Deming was born on 9 September 1638 at Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut; "According to Savage, John Deming Jr was born in 1638, but the authority for this statement is not given. Hinman says that he was born in 1632, and if this earlier date is correct, he must have been born before his father moved to Wethersfield. To distinguish him from his father upon the early records of the town, he is called "Sergeant John Deming," this title indicating that he may have taken part in the Indian wars of the period."2 He married Mary Mygatt at Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, on 12 September 1657.3,2 In John Deming's will between 26 June 1690 and 3 February 1692 at Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut, John, Samuel, David, Ebenezer, Rachel, daughter, Mary, Mercy and Sarah was named as an heir.4 Sgt. p. 15: "The identify of this man as son of Sergeant John Deming of Wethersfield has not been fully established. His gravestone states that at his death in 1742, he was "about 78." This would make his birth year 1764, three years later than the recorded birth of Joseph of Wethersfield, a discrepency which might easily occur. . .There is every reason to believe that he was son of Sergeant John Deming, for the records of Wethersfield fail to how any other fate of Joseph, the son of Sergeant John, who was born 1 Jun 1661, and no other person of the name Joseph Deming has been found to corespond to the record of this man."2,3

Maria (Mary) Lentz Personal History of Maria (Mary) Lentz (B0-)

BO- Maria (Mary) Lentz. She shows as the last daughter and child of B- Bastian Lentz, Sr., and as unwed on his WILL, and assumed to be the youngest. She may have been older. It is believed that she lived for a while with her brother B7-Jacob LENTZ in Cabarrus Co., NC, and is shown as the Mary LENTZ marrying Jacob DEWALT on 26 Nay 1815 in Cabarrus Co., bonded by her brother B7- Jacob LENTZ.

Judging by the 1790 and 1800 censuses of Rowan Co., NC, she appears to have been living at home with B- Bastian Lentz, Sr. (See the entries on the 1790 and 1800 censuses in our entry for B- Bastian Lentz, Sr.)

Rowan Co., NC, Court records, p. 411, 4 Aug 1807, shows that the court ordered men to lay off one year's provisions for Mary Lentz. No widow Mary Lentz was found to fit this date, but we believe this was for BO- Maria (Mary) Lentz. This was soon after her father made his Will on 16 Mar 1807.

Cabarrus Co. shows that Mary Lentz married Jacob Dewalt on 26 May 1815, sponsored (bonded) by Jacob Lentz. The only Jacob Lentz in Cabarrus at this time was B7- Jacob Lentz and Mary Yost. The B7- family is well documented. This must be BO- Mary Lentz who was living with her brother B7- Jacob Lentz on his 100 acres in Cabarrus who was the sponsor, or bondsman.

We have no further records. Unrecognized GEDCOM data: Unknown GEDCOM tag: _UID 17D357B44552C440B4DA209C387F6AE7E2D7. She was Marriage; Person Source.2 She was born circa 1781 at Rowan County, North Carolina.3 She was born circa 1781 at Pennsylvania.1 She was born circa 1781 at Rowan County, North Carolina.3,4 Johann Sebastian Lentz mentioned Maria (Mary) Lentz in a will on 16 March 1807 at Rowan County, North Carolina."His will gives us the names of his children: Bastian Jr. Peter, Elizabeth, Dewalt, Adam, Ana Catherine, John, Margaret, Michael and Marie.5,6,4,7 She married Jacob Dewalt on 26 May 1815 at Cabarrus County, North Carolina; Marriage bonded by her brother, B7- Jacob Lentz. W. Dewitt, later referred to as 'Wake' Dewitt -- regarding laying out of a road and repair of a bridge. At the time I copied the note I thought the Wake was probably either Wade or Jake, but now think short for Wakefield. William Orvile DeWitt, manager of American Leavue BAseball Co., was grandson of A.W. DeWitt (from Dartmouth College book H8844qS559n). Alen M. Wakefield wa first circuit court judge appt Dec 24, 1802. M 5-10/ 1830 Smith County TN.3

OBITUARY: Elizabeth Kelly Palmore DeWitt (1818-1906)

Died, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. N.E. Turner, at 8 o’clock p.m., Sunday, June 10, 1906,
Mrs. Elizabeth K. DeWitt. The funeral services was held at the house Tuesday, June 12, preached by the pastor of the Christian church. The interment was made in the Howard cemetery. OBITUARY Elizabeth K. Palmore was born in Monroe county, Kentucky, December 28, 1818; was married in 1838 to Henry DeWitt, pioneer preacher of the Christian Church. To this union were born seven children of whom there survive three. Wm. A., and Samuel E. DeWitt, Pond Creek, Okla., and N.E. Turner with whom she had made her home for the thirty-two years of her widowhood. Mrs. DeWitt lived in Kentucky in the trying times of the civil war. She gave two sons to the defence of this country one of whom gave up his life on the field of battle. In 1864 she with her family moved to Illinois where they lived until they came to Elk County, Kansas, in 1871. She and her family were identified with the early history of this country, and will be remembered by the older citizens of Howard and vicinity. Mrs. DeWitt has been a member and a worker in the Christian church since her early youth, exemplifying the Christian life in the home. Owing to her advanced age and infirmities she has been deprived of
the privileges of attending public services for several years past, but have been quiet and patient and with a heart full of heaven’s own sunshine has waited for the call home. Her age was 87 years, 6 months and 13 days.

Note from Roma Turner: I have the original of this obituary. It was probably printed in the old Moline Mercury newspaper, Moline, Ks, or perhaps a
newspaper of the time from Howard, Ks. Roma J. Turner, great, great granddaughter of Elizabeth K. Palmore DeWitt and great granddaughter of Nancy Elizabeth DeWitt Turner.
