Twenty yrs earlier Henry's father Johann Philip Cruse had helped in the construction of the church building, which still stands and serves the community. There is a land entry in Rowan County, NC Sept 16, 1805, wherein Henry and the other heirs of Johann Philip Cruse, deceased, let Peter Cruse have 229 acres of land for 400 pounds (as said deceased had bound himself on Feb 4, 1803, for that amount to Henry Cruse who endorsed it to Peter Cruse, his brother). Shortly after the death of his father in 1805, Henry C., with his wife, Susannah, and prob five children, left NC and moved to Hamilton, OH. He joined his sister and brother-in-law, Anna Maria and Jacob Lingle, who two years earlier ahd left North Carolina and were already in Butler County OH. Nov 21, 1806, Henry entered land in Butler County, Range 3, Township 1 The 1807 census of Butler County lists Henry in Ross Township. At least one child was born in Butler County; a son, Henry, born Feb 6, 1812. In Oct 1816, Henry went to Daviess County, IN. It is not kown whether he was the first of his family in IN, or, once again, joined a sister and brother-in-law, Magdalena and Elias Myers who also were in Daviess County in the very early 1800's. On Feb 15, 1817, his brother Adam, acted as agent for Henry and sold his land in Cabarrus County, NC, and on Oct 25, 1817, Henry entered land in Martin County (orig Daviess County), Range 3W, Township 3N. Henry, however, relinquished this land to the Government for failure to complete payments. The 1820 census for IN shows Henry in Deleware County, however, by June 1820 he was in Washington Township. He went up White River in a boat with his family and Martin McCoy and family to within eight miles of Indianapolis, and the rest of the way in wagons. He made his home for several years in the woods near where the Wabash crosses Falls Creek. Henry seemed to have lost much of his property by endorsing for friends. In 1824 he went to IL; first to Montgomery County. He later made his way to Tazewell County where he settled on the Mackinow River, near Peoria, when it was Fort Clark. Some historians state that he died there at age 65. Susanna survived Henry some years. The 1850 census for IN shows her at age 76 living in the household of their son, Solomon, in Indianapolis where she died.
